Abstract: Monte Carlo methods can gain a quadratic speed-up using quantum algorithms. Foundations for understanding this result will be provided, including Quantum Phase Estimation(QPE), Amplitude amplification and estimation, Encoding probability distributions in superposition states, and finally the Quantum Monte Carlo methods. Related applications of QMC will also be discussed.
