Title: Humans are losing control of data science.

Abstract: Some time ago it was prophesied that traditional data science would splinter into radically low cost supply chains where the participants were not humans but, rather, autonomous agents. That thesis, later published in the book Microprediction: Building an Open AI Network is considerably less absurd today. I will survey the incredible rise of collective, competitive and decentralized machine learning in finance, trading, sports, e-commerce, cybersecurity, language, medicine and elsewhere, in order to better judge the future likelihood of other parts of the thesis, such as the evolution of a dedicated internet for itinerant algorithms, and a more complete inversion of control where humans cease to be the main orchestrators of analytical work.
